Okay, so that’s a buck sixty-four for the coffee, and you gave me a buck-seventy so SCREW YOU TAXPAYER!

Hello.

It’s me again.

The part of your personality that really, really, really likes manners.

And I’m offended.

Offended by a Canadian icon.

You know, the Canadian icon that’s named for a former NHL player. The Canadian icon that was taken over by a certain red-haired frock-wearing gal from the US a few years back.

The Canadian icon that I can’t do without every time I go to the rink….every time I go to my friend’s place for Hockey Night in Canada….every time I get a hankering for a nice double/double.

Because apparently now it’s perfectly good manners to refuse to give someone their change when they order a coffee. This has happened twice to me since Saturday. So, I’m going to call them out.

Hey Tim Horton’s….when did it become standard practice for your employees to stop giving out change and basically wave customers on with a cheery “thank you” or the loathsome “please move ahead”? I don’t give a damn if I only ordered an extra-large double/double and my bill is a grand total of $1.64 - if I pay with $1.75, I want….nay, I demand my $0.11 back. It’s called Performing Your Job Properly. I know it’s a rare trait in our world these days, but really, I’ve got no patience for this kind of crap anymore. Give me my change, and no one gets yelled at. It’s my decision whether to put that $0.11 in a tip jar, or a donation tin, or what have you. Not yours. Please treat me with the same respect that you’d like to receive. Otherwise I will start paying for my coffee, Timbits, and cookies every morning for all of my fellow employees with pennies. At the drive-thru. And I’ll hand them over in $0.10 increments. I don’t care if there’s some obscure law that says that I can’t pay for anything over $0.50 in pennies - that will just add fuel to my fire.

So let’s treat our clientele with respect, shall we? Believe me, we can hurt you a lot more than you can hurt us.
